For those that missed Wednesday’s excellent talk by Richard Kretchmer, or for those that just want to see the images a bit more vividly, we’ve now uploaded the re-photographed, delicately hand-coloured magic lantern slides and you can see all 70-odd of them in more detail in their own gallery here – Magic Lantern Slides from Llanfyllin circa 1900.
It was a fascinating insight into the local area around 1900s through the eyes of a newly-discovered local amateur photographer John Ellis Jones, or ‘Non’ Jones of Globe House. Thanks go to Richard and to Pauline Page-Jones for the work on the slideshow.
Don’t miss John Hainsworth’s upcoming talk “Paupers, Bastards and Lunatics – Living the Poor Life in the Llanfyllin Union Workhouse” – which is on Wednesday 10th April 2013 at the Institute, Llanfyllin, 7:30pm.
