UPDATE: Watch the BBC TV report here
Llanfyllin’s Lonely Tree story seems to have struck a chord with the general public and there have been multiple appearances in the local newspapers – The Tanat Chronicle, Yr Ysgub, County Times and the Shropshire Star as well as in the Welsh TV news, national press with last Sunday’s Observer article, and even something of a mini Twitter storm.
There’s also been an interview on BBC Radio 5’s Live Drive programme – you can listen to that here – skip to near the end for the talk with Pauline Page-Jones.
All this is helping to raise the profile and the money (if not the actual tree) for the fencing work that will be needed to protect the tree from marauding sheep while it tries to regrow, or ‘phoenix’.
Donations have been received from as far as Singapore and the USA and nearly £300 has been raised from the online donation page.
Don’t forget the Lonely Tree concert on the 29th March at The Workhouse, where musicians and songwriters have turned their time and talents to making a memorable evening – details will be on the website.
And also the book of collected reminiscences, poems, photos, sketches and stories is well underway. If you want to add something the deadline is THIS EVENING! Use this web page to send something.
