Australian quad bike stuntman, the Kangaroo Kid, is heading to Mid Wales with lots of thrills in store for the crowd at Llanfyllin Show on Saturday, August 12.
The Kangaroo Kid is Matt Coulter, a world class stuntman from the Gold Coast, who has won a place in the Guinness Book of Records over the years for a series of stunts, including jumping 14 Jeeps and four moving Jeeps.
His unique stunt show is performed using specially fitted quad bikes and ends with a spectacular jump over anything that is put in their path – Matt has even jumped a flying aeroplane!
He will perform two, action-packed, 30-minute show routines to keep families entertained at Llanfyllin Show, which has built a deserved reputation as the “friendly show” over the years because of the warm welcome that always awaits visitors.
The show, which is held at Bodfach Park, by kind permission of the Bodfach Trust and Janet Jones, attracts around 5,000 people and opens at 9a. The last event in the main ring is terrier racing at 6pm.
Local sheepdog trials are held on the eve and day of the show, a highlight of which is the sheep shearing, which brings together some of the best sheep shearers from across Wales.
Other attractions include Porthywaen Silver Band, dog show, classes for horses, sheep, goats, horticulture, floral art, cookery and crafts, a Village Green, a Punch & Judy show and children’s sports.
Show president is Phil Ellis, a retired builder and funeral director who lives in Rhos-y-Brithdir, near Llanfyllin and is well known in the area. Show chairman for a second year is Emyr Jones.
“To be invited to become show president is a terrific honour and privilege,” said Phil. “I think it’s a marvellous, friendly show which attracts people from a very wide area.
“Although I have never competed at the show, I have been attending since I was a child. It brings people of the countryside and the town together and is a great place to meet up with old friends.”
