On 30th October this year the bells of St Myllin’s Church were tolled in remembrance of W G Jones who died a few days before the end of the First World War aged 19.
Shortly after 6pm there were 9 strikes from the bell tower at St Myllin’s to tell that a man has died, followed by 19 strikes to record his age.
His nephew Gordon Jones and family attended the tolling and they laid a wreath at the War Memorial.
William Gordon Jones lived at Green Square, just by St Myllin’s, and worked as a carpenter with his father. He died in a Prisoner of War Camp hospital in Germany October 30th 1918.
Over the last 4 years the bells been tolled for all the Llanfyllin Boys killed in WW1 on the centenaries of their deaths. There will be one more tolling this year – then four next year.
The bellringers will remember each of the Llanfyllin fallen on the centenary of their death.
